HDFC-Subtle message in a common way


It's been a while since leave alone anyone, I myself have been here!!!

Well, anyways HDFC has come with their new ad. I thought it was a very nice way to convey a message of the bank's network across India. The kid is looking for his house crying on the road. The biker asks him about the house.

Now there's a certain simplicity as well as the emotional touch in this ad. Everyone relating to financial services are capitalising on the emotional quotient formula these days. All the ads must have kids (cute kids) and there should be a message relating to their security in it. Whereas HDFC used the same formula but in a more subtle way.

They used the kid but exploited not their cuteness but their innocence. There's another ad with a cute little girl in it, guess its Union Bank-Kyunki aapke sapne sirf aap ke nahi....something like that. Innocence has been exploited there as well but in a much serious way. In a sense that the girl has been thinking overtly matured for her age. Whereas here the kid recognises his house with the ATM thats near it. Now HDFC wants to convey the meassage of its massive ATM network in the country which I guess is aptly revealed in the ad.

Two different ways to exploit the same human quality-Innocence. Good job!!!

HDFC ad definitely leaves you with a smile....:)

"Celebrity Endorsement"

A bit wavering off the main theme of the blog.This post is about "Celebrity Endorsement".

I still remember the lecture in which we were taught this topic as a special emphasis was laid on managing a brand over their endorsements.I'd found it very amusing as I couldn't believe the fact that people buy brands because a particular celebrity promotes it.I mean how many people,today use Navratna hair oil just because Mr Bachchan endorses it???

I was wrong.....

It was only after the completion of the lecture that I actually went and asked people if they would eat 'Lays' (chips) if their favourite star started endorsing it.That's probably why Dhoni has been brought against Saif these days.I got mixed reactions from everyone but eventually,to my surprise the people staying positive turned out to be higher in number.The hottest favourite was Aamir Khan.

Later I learnt that 'Celebrity Endorsement' is just not promoting the brand.It is far more deeper than what I thought it was.It creates an association in the minds of people.The association with which the celebrity can be linked to the brand.Imagine if Amitabh Bachchan started endorsing Kingfisher beer!!!His brand image will suffer a great setback as people see him as more of a family man and a matured personality.Yes,but at the same time if Sanjay Dutt proposes to endorse it,the campaign might be a success.It depends on the brand image of the celebrity at that point of time.For example;Saurav Ganguly was taken off from Brittania immediately after he was kicked out of the team due to bad performance,Salman Khan's ads were stopped the minute he was arrested by the cops,so on and so forth.

Thus the issue of Celebrity Endorsement has to be dealt with very carefully in branding.It has a direct impact on the consumer's buying behavior and at the same time is more attached to their sentiments than any other way of promotion.

SBI Life Insurance

Hi folks,
I am not even sure if anyone comes to this blog and really checks it or not.Anyways this is the best place where I feel I can share some views about the current ads that get aired on our beloved idiot boxes.
SBI-LI has come up with a very innovative ad these days.This and the previous banking ad (remember where the kid enters the bank with his parents) are the changing face of the country's biggest bank for sure.The change in strategy can be cleary noted from the way they are marketing themselves.They want to get in to competition with the ICICIs and the HDFCs of the world.
Well,however I hope they come up more interesting ads like this and I am sure this will definitely increase an awarenes about them amongst people.

The new Sumo Grande

TATA has been launching and re-launching its one of the most successfull brands of all time-The TATA Sumo.It was launched as Sumo in the beginning followed by a relaunch under the name Sumo-Deluxe.Then came the Sumo Spacio and now the all new Sumo Grande.There are other variants in this category like the Gx,Vx etc.Grande is priced some where around Rs 7.5 lacs!!!It seems that the company plans to compete with other similar jeeps like the Scorpio,Tavera etc in the market.
However don't you think that they should have launched it under a new brand name?Sumo was famous for its huge space and the sturdiness it offered alongwith a market winner being the price advantage.Now if you launch another vehicle with the same name(just another variant) and price it so high wouldn't it affect your sales as well as the brand???It defeats the very pupose of the original Sumo.
Whats your opinion???

The new Asian Paints Ad

Hi every one.Have you guys seen the new Asian paints ad where the husband asks his wife to imagine colours?The ad suggests us to paint a portion on our walls and imagine how the colour would look instead of just picturising it.But isn't it that all the painters have been doing all this while???Well and anyways how about the target audience?I mean how many of us paint our houses on our own in India?So the target audience primarily remains the painters,isn't it?And don't they know this technique?There's something going wrong in the ad!!!
